Bible Reading: Proverbs 6: 1-31
“My son keep thy father’s commandment, and forsake not the law of thy mother” – Prov. 6:20(KJV)
Life is a gift from God. He, however, allows various instructions to come through our parents. Aside from this, they are also saddled with the responsibility of watching over us and giving us instructions with which our daily lives could be run.
Untold number of men today have met their waterloo because they chose to bluff all that God is passing to them through their earthly parent. Each of us should note that our parents are very important in our formative process and their godly counsels should never be thrashed. The struggle that many are facing today is borne out of complete neglect of all the advice that both mother and father gave to them at their childhood age.
The writer of the book, Solomon understands that we cannot over emphasize this matter of keeping instruction, hence the strong emphasis he placed upon it. Jesus Christ, our Master says, “But he said, yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God and keep it” – Luke 11:28(KJV). How am I supposed to keep instruction for life? “Bind them continually upon my heart and tie them about my neck.” Our hearts are very central to living a pleasing life before God and among men.
Commandment is a lamp. What does lamp do? It brightens dark path of our lives. Law is a Light? Now both commandment and law are meant to bring us out of darkness. Looking for way to live in life? Then, allow the instructions of God to be the basis for your existence.
Commandment and Law have the capacity to lead, keep and talk with us if we care to allow its influence upon our lives. The trap of whorish woman would have been avoided by gullible male if they hearken diligently to the voice of the Lord through the prompting of the Holy Spirit. The Lord recognized that we have evil women who are operating with the spirit of seduction, with the sole aim of getting the righteous at heart to a disastrous end vv. 24-25.
When instruction of life is kept, the following happens:
- It helps us to get out of the camp of the sluggard vv. 6-11
- It helps us to stay away from a naughty person who sows seed of discord vv.12-15
- It helps to quickly identify those things that God abhors/frowns at vv. 16-19
- It teaches us how to avoid pit of adultery vv. 24-35
Strive never to toy with all that God has graciously outlined in His word for our daily use.
Prayer: Help me Lord to daily run my life according to the dictates of Your Word.
