Bible Reading: Proverbs 7: 1-27
“Hearken unto me now therefore, O ye children and attend to the words of my mouth” – Proverbs 7: 24(KJV)
The depravity that we have in our world today is as a result of our blatant and wilful rejection of the express instructions starring at human on daily basis. God never keep us in the dark as to what would benefit us for life and godliness. The writer, Solomon had suffered a severe blow from the hands of strange women and at his old age, his heart was turned away from the LORD (1Kings 11:1-4). This old man (Solomon) is sending the young men who are desirous of engaging the service of strange women by reason of the energy they possess which ought to have been directed to something more precious and profitable, to the school of wisdom and understanding (Verses1-4). You may ask, why are they being sent to this institution? It is simply because that was what he did not apply that landed him in the error which shifted his focus from the Lord. Anyone that is well tutored in this school, will be kept from the strange woman.
The strange woman employs the power of flattery (verse 5), the power of night (verse.9 cf John 3:19-21), the power of seductive dress (verse.10), seductive perfume etc. With her much persuasion and flattery, the young man yielded (verse 21). Little did he know that, he has yielded to his own destruction (Verses 22-23). Hear how Amplified version renders it: “Suddenly he (yields and) follows her reluctantly like an ox moving to the slaughter, like one in fetters going to the correction (to be given) to a fool or like a dog enticed by food to the muzzle till a dart (of passion) pierces and inflames his vitals, then like a bird fluttering straight into the net (he hastens), not knowing that it will cost him his life.” Many people are swept into eternity suddenly as a result of untamed passion (cf Prov. 9:13-18).
The measure against this are made known in the Bible which are: 1) Let not your heart decline to her ways (verse 25a), 2) Do not stray in her paths (verse 25b). The reasons for this timeless admonition is because this woman of easy virtue has succeeded in bringing down many strong men. Her house is the expressway to hell (verse 26 cf 1 Cor 10:12).
Perhaps you have fallen prey to the woman of easy virtue, you have opportunity to retrace your steps back to Jesus, He will restore you and give you grace to overcome all that are in the future which the enemy may want to use to hurt you and take you back to your vomit.
Prayer Point: Father, help me to be sensitive to pit destruction dug before me.
