”This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him” Matt 17:5.(KJV)
Yesterday, we saw the need of not just knowing about him but having to know his person, not by religious studies, but, by revelation. The religious Jews said that he was John the Baptist, others Elijah, Jeremiah or one of the Prophets. When his disciples’ opinion was sought, Peter, receiving light from above, declared him Christ the Son of the living God. In today’s meditation, we discovered that God had to further enlighten the disciples on the person of his Son. In this experience, Jesus true divine personality was further revealed. Moses and Elijah appeared before a transfigured Christ, whose ”face did shine as the Sun, and his raiment was white as the light.’‘ A bewildered Peter, suggested making three tabernacles for the three. God once again, seeing their confusion and ignorance quickly declared Jesus as his Son who they must listen to.
Note: 1.Jesus is not in the class of Elijah or Moses.
”For this man(Jesus) was counted worthy of more glory than Moses inasmuch as he who hath builded the house hath more honour than the house’‘ In Heb.3:3(KJV)
Moses is the house, Jesus the builder. ”In the beginning was the word…the word was God” All things were made by him (Christ Jesus). – Jn.1:1, 3a.
Though Peter new that Jesus was Christ the Son of the Living God, he was yet to gain the deeper knowledge to distinguish him from the Prophets who were but servants of God.
Note: 2. None of the Prophets qualified to be called the Son of God.
Note: 3. The word of Christ is superior and final.
So God the Father bore witness that Christ not Moses or Elijah should be heard. ”hear ye him.
In conclusion, we must follow on to know him by committing ourselves and time to seeking him through public and private bible studies, prayers and fellowship .”For the Lord revealed himself to Samuel in Shiloh by the word of the Lord” – 1Sam.3:21.
Prayers: Dear Lord God, I thank you for revealing Christ your Son to me as my Lord and saviour. I desire to know him more and more so that I can develop stronger faith in him as I go through life’s experiences a victor. As Peter became a champion of faith after revealing Jesus again and again to him, l want to have deeper knowledge of him. In Jesus name.
