Bible Reading: Proverbs 14: 1-35
“The evil bow before the good; and the wicked at the gates of the righteous” – Proverbs 14:19(KJV)
The shallow mindedness and excessive greed of man which has resulted in high level of selfishness and inordinate ambition of members of our society has reduced the human race to a high level of bestiality, hence the virtue of doing good has become alien to our society. Unfortunately this act of self has crept into the church that was supposed to pursue and exhibit Christ selfless lifestyle. They easily forget that it does matter evil prospers it must surely bow to good.
The story of Mordecai comes to mind here. He was at the gate every time doing his own business. He did it to the extent that when some servants connived to wreak havoc against the king, he prevented it. Mordecai was unlike many people in our world today who will join hands with unscrupulous element to destroy the company or the life of their superiors (Esther 2:21-23). A time came when a member of the cabinet – Haman was elevated. He allowed this to get into his head just for his destruction. He was promoted and this puffed him up but he was soon deflated and destroyed (Esther 3, 5 &7). The Scripture says, “The eyes of the LORD are in every place beholding the evil and the good” – Proverbs 15:3(KJV).
What is your motivation in life – evil or good? Permit me to counsel you that it pays to do good. Never be filled in your own ways that leads to backsliding. Remember, “the house of the wicked shall be overthrown, but the tabernacle of the upright shall flourish” – Proverbs 14:11(KJV). Jesus said, “You have heard that it was said, you shall love your neighbour and hate your enemy; but I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, to show that you are the children of your Father Who is in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the wicked and on the good, and makes the rain fall upon the upright and the wrongdoers (alike)” -Matt. 5:43-45 (Amplified).
Prayer: Father, give me the grace to do good continually till I breathe my last breath in Jesus name.
