Bible Reading: Proverbs 27: 1-27
“…So he that waiteth on his master shall be honoured” – Proverbs 27:18b(KJV).
There is a saying that “Rome was not built in a day”. Also, a child who is just learning how to crawl cannot on the same day stand up to walk. The rat race in our society now has made people to forget the ministry of serving. A lot of seminars are floated on leadership, a lot of books have been written on leadership as well but very few on stewardship and followership. Many have been encouraged to take up a particular leadership position or the other. This is not bad, but we need to strike a balance as the larger percentage of the youth populace are eager to be in leadership position without the mind to follow.
Examples abound in the Bible of those who served and were honoured in the process. When Elisha was called by Elijah, as he abandoned his profitable business venture, he immediately collapsed all that he had laboured on and he ran after Elijah to wait on him “and he returned back from him, and took a yoke of oxen, and slew them, and boiled their flesh with the instruments of oxen, and gave unto the people, and they did eat. Then he arose, and went after Elijah, and ministered unto him” – 1 Kings 19:21.
When Jesus called His disciples, He asked them to follow Him, “And Jesus walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers. And he saith unto them Follow me, and I will make…and they straightway left their nets and followed him” – Matthew 4:18-20. These people were not bothered about what would happen to them, their family and all that pertained to them. Whatever their Master asked them to do, they did. They never regretted this decision. Elisha received double portion of Elijah’s anointing. The disciples had the honour of being the mouthpiece of God, the fruit of which we are enjoying today.
Are you desirous of being great? Then stoop down to serve wherever you are now! Never have the thought that, servanthood (or stewardship) belittles you. God is watching to see how you shall be committed in serving others, before He would entrust people under your care. May you never miss the opportunity to serve in Jesus name.
Prayer: Father, help me never to miss my honour because of my refusal to serve in Jesus name.
