Bible Reading: Ecclesiastes 7:1-29
“For wisdom is a defence, and money is a defence but the excellency of knowledge is that wisdom giveth life to them that have it” – Ecclesiastes 7:12 (KJV).
There is no doubt in the heart of any man that money is a defence. It saves one from shame, pains and ridicules. Money defends one from hunger and insult. Money gives a man the purchasing power, it takes care of our bills, provides comfort and enhances a good life here on earth. However, there are many things that money cannot do because it has its limitations. Money can purchase a water bed but it cannot give sleep. Money can purchase drugs and doctors but it cannot buy health. Money can purchase car but it cannot buy safety.
Wisdom, on the other hand, gives life to those that find it. Wisdom can preserve your life, your business and your health. Wisdom can guarantee safety and long life. Wisdom is the person of Jesus. “But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom and righteousness, and sanctification and redemption” – 1 Cor 1:30 (KJV).
Wisdom gives and preserves life. He that has Christ has life but he that does not have Christ has no life in him. Human wisdom is full of bitter envying and strife. It is characterized by craftiness, smartness, confusion and every evil work. “But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be entreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy” James 3:17 (KJV). This wisdom is given freely and liberally simply when a person surrenders to the Lordship of Jesus.
“If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraith not; and it shall be given him” – James 1:5 (KJV). Ask in faith by believing in the Lord Jesus as Lord and Saviour and wisdom shall be given to you by God. The greatest wisdom is to acknowledge Jesus as savior.
PRAYER: Lord, grant wisdom to me, my family and friends in Jesus name.
