Bible Reading: Ecclesiastes 10:1-20
“He that diggeth a pit shall fall into it; and whoso breaketh an hedge, a serpent shall bite him” – Ecclesiastes 10:8 (KJV).
Where there is no love in the hearts of men for God and for people, the tendency to plan to undo others is high. We live in a world where people for envy and jealousy strive with their neigbours plotting all kinds of evil. A lot of people have sold their souls to that old serpent, the devil and have become instruments of evil and wickedness.
The bible is very clear, “be not deceived; God is not mocked; for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap” – Galatians 6:7 (KJV). The reaping may not always be instant but the seed principle remains in operation. The result may be delayed but sin cannot go unpunished.
The devil, that old serpent hovers around seeking whom to devour. Sin creates a loop hole in our defense exposing us to satan’s wicked activities. Sin makes a person vulnerable to the devil.
Righteousness is our defense; it is a strong hedge around a person. It protects one from the attack of sickness, diseases, death and infirmities. It protects one from failure and defeat. The blood of Jesus is a hedge around the believer. When one accepts Jesus as Lord, one comes under the covering of the blood of Jesus; with the imputed righteousness.
“The name of the Lord is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe” – Proverb 18:10 (KJV).
Many have fallen victim to the wicked venom of that old serpent because of the nature of sin inherited from the first Adam. The fall of man gave satan power and authority over man. He has continued to afflict the fallen man with all kinds of infirmities and frustration. But thank God for Jesus, “the last Adam”, who has destroyed the power of sin by his exchanged life and his death on the cross in our place. He condemned sin and gave man his righteousness. Through this gift of righteousness, the believer is empowered to reign in life. The authority of that old serpent is destroyed and the blood of Jesus forms a strong hedge of defense around the believer. A life of holiness preserves the hedge keeping the believer outside the reach of that old serpent.
PRAYER: Thank you Jesus for the blood that has redeemed us.
