Bible Reading: Ecclesiastes 11:1-10

“But if a man live many years, and rejoice in them all; yet let him remember the days of darkness; for they shall be many. All that cometh is vanity” – Ecclesiastes 11:8 (KJV).

The bible speaks of evil days and the days of darkness. These are not the days any one will wish to see. They represent days of pain, confusion and calamities. Hopelessness and despair sets in and joy fades from the heart. Salvation seems so far and outside ones reach. In those days, one will seek for death but death will be so far.

Unfortunately, many in their life time do not give thought to the other side of life. They live as if life ends here. They dam the consequences of eternity. Those who fail to consider eternity will surely face the days of darkness. They will cry for help then but help will be far from them. Every one who rejects the light of life will surely face the evil days of darkness while those who accept God’s offer of light will spend eternity with Jesus the Sun of righteousness. They will not see darkness but shall shine like the brightness of the sun forever and ever.

Darkness is not only the absence of light; it connotes terror, calamity, affliction, hopelessness, torments and evil days. Our text describes those days of darkness as many days. It is eternity without Christ. It is everlasting punishment. The days of darkness could mean old age that is not prepared for. Some people live life without investing in their future and at old age they suffer without anybody or anything left behind to fall back on. Wisdom demands that one prepares for the future in this side of the divide and for eternity. The worst scenario is where one fails to plan for life after death.

Our lifetime is opportunity to decide where we will spend eternity and what eternity will hold for us. Have you made plans to spend eternity with Jesus? Now is the acceptable time.

PRAYER: Oh Lord, save me from the days of darkness in Jesus name.
