Bible Reading: The Song of Solomon 6:1-13
“Return, return, o’ Shulamite; return, return, that we may look upon you. What will you see in the Shulamite? As it were the company of two armies” – Song of Solomon 6:13 (KJV).
Here, King Solomon makes an appeal to the Shulamite woman to return to the shepherd. Israel abandoned the God of their father and began to envy and imitate the gentile nations. Here, God through King Solomon appeals to her to return. This is the role of the church to call sinners back to God. “And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation” – 2 Corinthians 5:18 (KJV). The mission of the church is to call sinners to return to God. This is the great commission; the heart beat of God is to bring sinners to repentance. He is not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. To accomplish this mission, God has assigned the church to preach the gospel, “And he said, unto them, go ye into the world and preach the gospel to every creature” -Mark 16:15 (KJV). This gospel is preached through personal evangelism from house to house, in the work places and the market places, through the media including the social media and through public crusades, calling sinners to return to God in repentance for he will abundantly pardon and receive the repentant sinner.
Have you returned to God? Are you still wandering in the world and wallowing in sin? The gospel is the power of God unto salvation. The good news is that you don’t have to die in your sin because God has done something about sin. He does not condemn you because Christ has paid the price. But if you reject God’s offer there is no other remedy but eternal agony in the lake of fire. God offers you another opportunity to return and be saved through this devotion.
PRAYER: Dear Lord, thank you for your love that has given me another opportunity to be saved. I accept your offer of salvation today.
