Bible Reading: The Song of Solomon 8:1-14
“Many waters cannot quench love, neither can the flood drown it: if a man would give all the substance of his house for love, it would utterly be contemned” – Song of Solomon 8:7 (KJV).
Love can face great oppositions and challenges, but unlike darkness does not constitute threat to light. Hate, animosity, envy, strife and malice cannot quench love. It is a very powerful force. It makes way where there is no way. Sometimes love faces rejection, attacks and unkind words are spoken to neutralize love, but true love conquers all oppositions.
Love will always find a way even in thick darkness and great flood. When flood drowned the whole world, during Noah’s time, love found a way for man. When fire destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah love found a way to restore man. When the flood of sin, and wickedness threatened man’s existence on earth and man’s place in the plan and purpose of God, love found a way to bring redemption through Christ. When the first Adam fell in the Garden of Eden and hid from God, love came in search of him and clothed his nakedness. When Pharaoh passed a decree that every male child of the Hebrews be killed, love rescued Moses even in Pharaoh’s palace. When Herod tried to kill the new born child to abort God’s plan of redemption, love found a way of escape to Egypt. When Jesus was buried and soldiers were placed to guard the tomb so he will not resurrect, love found a way. When the woman accused of adultery was dragged to Jesus and the witnesses insisted she must be stoned to death according to the Law of Moses, love found a way to rescue and save her without breaking the law. When Jonah rebelled against God and was swallowed by a fish, love found a way to rescue him even after three days in the belly of the fish. When all hell broke loose and sin killed me and condemned me to eternal death, love found a way to save me in Christ. Not even my stubbornness and rebellion could stop love from reaching me.
Love suffers long, and is kind, love is not easily provoked, love does not seek her own, love thinks no evil and does not rejoice in iniquity. Love bears all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails (1 Corinthians 13:4-8). “And we have known and believed the love that God hath for us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him” – 1 John 4:16 (KJV). Indeed, “many waters cannot quench love neither can the flood drown it”. This is why despite your rebellion and hardness of heart, God still loves you and he has sent this message to let you know how much he loves you.
PRAYER: Oh God, thank you for the enduring love.
