Bible Reading: Isaiah 13:1-22
“Behold, the day of the Lord cometh, cruel both with wrath and fierce anger, to lay the land desolate: and he shall destroy the sinners thereof out of it” – Isaiah 13:9 (KJV).
The day of the Lord will mean different thing to different people. It will be a day of joy and reward for all those who accepted his Lordship and received his love. They will come with joy and gladness to welcome their father who have loved and saved them. “Therefore the redeemed of the Lord shall return, and come with singing unto Zion; and everlasting joy shall be upon their head: they shall obtain gladness and joy; and sorrow and mourning shall flee” – Isaiah 51:11 (KJV).
It shall be to the saints, a glorious celebration and reward as they welcome the one who has redeemed them from sin and the wrath of God, and who has qualified them to become members of God’s family and has given them the right to cry Abba father. The one who has made them heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ. The one who has given them access to the kingdom.
On the contrary, the day of the Lord shall be a day of terror, wrath and destruction for all who reject the love of God and the salvation he offered to man in Christ. The day of the Lord shall be to such, a day of tears, weeping and gnashing of teeth. It shall be a day of sorrow and mourning, a Day of Judgment and agony. “The lofty looks of man shall be humbled, and the haughtiness of men shall be bowed down, and the Lord alone shall be exalted in that day” – Isaiah 2:11 (KJV). The Day of the Lord shall be a day of his fierce anger against sinners.
Today is the day of salvation, God’s love and mercy are available to the repentant sinner, as you hear his voice, do not harden your heart. Failure to avail oneself of the opportunity of today’s grace will leave one with no other option than to face that terrible day of God’s wrath. Don’t forget that the loving God is also a consuming fire. What will the day of the Lord be for you? The choice is yours and now is the time to decide.
PRAYER: Oh God, may the day of the Lord be a day of joy and gladness for me in Jesus name.
