Bible Reading: 2 Chron. 3; Phil. 3:1-10
“That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;” – Philippians 3:10 (KJV)
When a child does not obey his parents but does as he pleases, he will incur the wrath of the parents. Furthermore, they will not give the best to him. If care is not taken the parent may reject him as their child. This is similar to what happens in the life of a Christian.
As a child of the most high, a Christian is expected to learn the ways of God so that he may know the dos and don’ts. That’s why the word of God enjoins a Christian to desire the sincere milk of the word that he may grow thereby. (1 Pet 2:2).
For one to live a fulfilling life, he needs to accept Jesus as his Lord and Saviour and seek to know him more. Philippians 3:10 (KJV) says, “That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;”
We need to know Jesus by studying his word and having a cordial relationship with the Holy Spirit. To relate well with the Holy Spirit requires fellowshipping more with Him. How do you fellowship with the Holy Spirit? It’s by engaging Him often. You can start with speaking in tongues and later grow to sing in tongues.
When we fellowship like this with the Spirit, we will begin to grow like a tree and after some time begin to bear fruit. The fruit of the Holy Spirit is a sign that we have a good relationship with the master. However, the more we know Him, the more we want to know Him.
The fruit of the Spirit is stated in Galatians 5:22-23 (KJV), “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.”
As we bear this fruit, we will know the power of Jesus resurrection in love, joy and peace ; the fellowship of his suffering in long suffering, gentleness and goodness while we become conformable to his death in faith, meekness and temperance. So this way, the needs stated in Phil 3:10 are met through the nine fruit of the Spirit. Thus over time, we will be like him.
Prayer: Father, help increase me in the knowledge of you and make me conform to the image of Christ in Jesus name.
