Bible Reading: 2 Chron. 10; Col 2:13-23
“Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;” – Colossians 2:14 (KJV)
Apostle Paul, stated in Philemon 1:19 (KJV), “I Paul have written it with mine own hand, I will repay it : albeit I do not say to thee how thou owest unto me even thine own self besides.”
So for handwriting of ordinances, it is a bond written with the hands of your activities over a period of time based on the laws or precepts.
Spiritually, every activity of man is his writing of what has been done by that man whether for or against the law.
Such ordinances or bond will show, among others, all sins or transgressions we have committed. Such transgressions will remain forever unless it is blotted. Since we cannot go back to the time of the event, none of us can rewrite the bond but can only add to it.
The only one who can erase it is someone who has the capacity to go back to that day and time. This is Jesus. That is why He says in Colossians 2:14 (KJV), “Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;” This means all ordinances of the good things we did would still be intact while our negatives would be cancelled; blotted out.
When that is done, we are given the grace to start all over and make up for all the errors we have committed in the past.
By that, we would have been given a second chance. Such a chance is an opportunity to show love to others by telling them about the opportunity of being given a second chance on a clean slate.
Secondly, it also affords us the opportunity of living a life that is obedient to the will of the Almighty; by being holy in every area of our life. Thirdly, it gives us the opportunity to be generous and support the needy in the land,
Fourthly, it will help us to make amends in respect of those we had wronged in the past so that we can correct ourselves and right our wrong. Finally, It also enables us to examine ourselves in line with the word of God whether we are living right.
Prayer: Thank you for blotting out my sins and giving me a new chance. Please give me the grace to fulfill your purpose for my life.
