Bible a Reading: 2 Chron. 17; 1 Thes. 2:11-20
“And the fear of the Lord fell upon all the kingdoms of the lands that were round about Judah, so that they made no war against Jehoshaphat.” – 2 Chronicles 17:10 (KJV)
In our bible reading for the day, we saw that in 2 Chron 17:3, the bible says the Lord was with Jehoshaphat, the king of Judah because he walked in the first ways of his father David. So the condition for God remaining the ally of Jehoshaphat was because he walked in his ways. So many of us walk in the way of God and so he is with us. However there are other things he expects us to do so that we can be at rest. One of it is to cater for our environment. This includes ministering the word of God to all those around us so that we may have peace.
In 2 Chron 17:7-9, Jehoshaphat did not only walk in the way of the Lord, he made sure he taught the people the way of the Lord. He sent the gospel ministers ( Levites) to teach all the people of Judah the word of God.
This pleased the Lord and He made sure that even Jehoshaphat’s enemies were at peace with him as the fear of the Lord fell on them. They were therefore unable to wage any war against Jehoshaphat as seen in 2 Chronicles 17:10 (KJV): “And the fear of the Lord fell upon all the kingdoms of the lands that were round about Judah, so that they made no war against Jehoshaphat”
Therefore, to please God, we should seek ways of teaching the people within our environment the ways of the Lord. This entails teaching all the members of our family and those within our span of control, the word of God. When those around us know the word of God, they will be a wall of defence for us and our family. This will keep us at rest. And more importantly, God will keep our enemies at bay while putting our fears in them.
Action Point: You cannot give what you don’t have. So please devote at least 30 mins everyday to study the word of God and get people to teach those under your authority, if you can’t do it yourself.
