2 Chronicle 28. 1 Timothy 2:1-8
“I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men” – 1 Timothy 2:1 (KJV).
An intercessor is a go-between, one mediating between man and God. Intercessory Ministry is a priestly ministry of all believers. Every believer is called to stand in the gap on behalf of others, on behalf of their communities, families, friends, nation and the entire world.
Intercessors are driven by passion to see people delivered or come to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. Through intercessory ministry, we can provoke a revival or divine intervention. Intercession precedes every major revival and divine visitation. It prepares the ground and the hearts of people for the gospel.
Examples abound in the scriptures of great men who through intercession changed the course of events in the lives of people and in nations. Abraham interceded for Sodom and Gomorrah and was able to save lot and his family from the fire that engulfed the city (Gen. 18:23-33). Moses was able to avert the judgment of God upon the children of Israel who sinned against God in making and worshipping a golden calf (Exodus 32:9-14). Ezra and Nehemiah also interceded for Israel at two separate times and so were able to get God’s pardon or stay God’s anger.
Daniel discovered through research that the time of Israel’s captivity to be over was passed but Israel was still in captivity, so he set his heart to intercede for God’s intervention. He identified with the sins of the people and pleaded for mercy, thus provoking divine intervention.
The scriptures presents a picture of Jesus making intercession for all saints (Heb 7:25).
The Holy Spirit helps our human weaknesses as we commit to the intercessory ministry (Rom 8:26 – 27).
PRAYER: Holy Spirit give me the burden to intercede for others.
