Bible Reading: 2 Chronicle 30. 1 Timothy 3:1-8
“For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God” – 1 Timothy 3:5 (KJV).
Christian leadership is a very serious matter because the destiny of many people is linked to the leader placed over them. A person aspiring for Christian leadership must possess some qualities before he or she is given a leadership position. The reason being that, a spiritual leader wields so much powerful influence on the led. Such influence could be positive or negative depending on who the leader is and the lifestyle or character he or she has.
A spiritual leader is, therefore, required among other qualities, to first show godly leadership in his family. He must show leadership at home by raising godly example of order, respect, submission, good followership and responsible family members. If he is not able to lead his children and other members of his family, it will not be wise to assume the greater responsibility of leading the church. The family must first be learning and training point of leadership. He must show leadership skill of being in charge, skill in teaching, guiding, chastising and correcting the family members, by raising them to be responsible people in the church and the society and empowering them to meaningfully contribute to the health of the family and the church.
Godly parenting becomes a good training ground for godly leadership. Such person aspiring for spiritual leadership must first display self leadership and be able to take responsibility for personal choices, decisions and actions. He must be a good example of godly character and then model such leadership skill in the family to show a convincing proof that he can be trusted with the destiny of others.
Unfortunately, today many people in Christian leadership lack self-leadership and many have no good examples of leadership in their family.
PRAYER: Lord, help me to raise a godly and responsible family in Jesus name.
