Bible Reading: 2 Chronicle 31. 1 Timothy 3:9-16
“And in every work that he began in the service of the house of God, and in the law, and in the commandments, to seek his God, he did it with all his heart, and prospered” – 2 Chronicles 31:21 (KJV).
The service of God and every activity of God’s people should be done with all one’s heart. Half-hearted service does not honour God neither does it produce the best result. God demands that we seek him and serve him with all our heart. How often people render lips service to God without heart involvement. People can be in church but be absent minded, not paying full attention to the word and worship. They come back from church cold hearted with little or no impact, no transformation of life because the heart is far from God.
The first commandment and the goal of all commandments is to love the Lord with all one’s heart, with all one’s soul and with all one’s mind (Matt. 22:37). True worship of God begins in the heart, every thing the believer has to do with God must spring from the heart and be done in the spirit. “God is a spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth” – John 4:24 (KJV). To be saved, one must first believe with the heart and then confess with the mouth the Lordship of Jesus (Romans 10:9-10). Serving God without heart commitment amounts to hypocritical service; such service does not impress God. Speaking about the scribes and Pharisees, Jesus said “This people draweth nigh unto me with their lips; but their heart is far from me” – Matthew 15:8 (KJV).
Hezekiah prospered in his service and reigned as king because he involved his heart in the service of God. He did that which was good, right and truth before the Lord his God with all his heart, and he prospered. True prosperity which involves the spiritual, physical, financial, material and the mental can only come from whole hearted service.
PRAYER: Help me Lord to serve you with all my heart.
