Bible Reading: Nehemiah 3: Titus 1:1-8
“In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie promised before the world began” – Titus 1:2 (KJV)
Eternal life is God’s kind of life. It is not just the duration but also the quality of life. Everlasting life is just one aspect of eternal life that talks of the duration of this life as unending in nature. It is a life that last forever. The implication is that those who are privileged to receive the redemption in Christ and persevere to the end will live a never ending life with Jesus in heaven. Unbelievers or sinners will equally live unending life, but in agony. It is called the second death. Theirs will be eternity of pain, sorrow, weeping torment and gnashing of teeth.
Another dimension of eternal life is the quality of life. This is the very life of God that talks of peace with God, the peace of God that transcends human understanding, the joy of the Holy Spirit, the love of God and glorious communion with God.
Eternal life to the believer is not only a thing of the future but God’s life here and now. It is abundant life that begins at new birth with God dwelling in the heart of the believer. It is the believer being part of God’s family and kingdom. Eternal life is not something we wait for, it is something we have now in Christ that we begin to enjoy as we participate in the kingdom life as members of God’s family.
“And this is the record that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his son. He that hath the son hath life; and he that hath not the son of God hath not life. These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the son of God” -1 John 5:11-13 (KJV).
PRAYER: Dear Lord, help me to reach the lost to embrace this eternal life in Christ.
