Bible Reading: Job 22; Heb 13:13-25
“Thou shalt also decree a thing, and it shall be established unto thee: and the light shall shine upon thy ways” – Job 22:28 (KJV)
The word of God is forever settled. He says we shall decree a thing and it shall be established unto us. Why then do we have situations when Christians decree and they do not come to pass?
The Lord Jesus has not changed but the people have deviated from the principle. Job 22:21-22 (KJV) says: “Acquaint now thyself with him, and be at peace: thereby good shall come unto thee. Receive, I pray thee, the law from his mouth, and lay up his words in thine heart.”
So one of the conditions is to acquaint ourselves with God Almighty by fellowshipping with him, constantly studying his words and meditating on them.
Furthermore, we must consequently put away iniquity from our lives (Job 22:23). When we do this and pay our vows (Job 22:27), we become oracle of God. Hence, Job 22:28 (KJV) says, “Thou shalt also decree a thing, and it shall be established unto thee: and the light shall shine upon thy ways.” Thus, you can call on God to do anything. However, such things must be within the will of God.
Knowing the will of God implies fellowshipping with God regularly. Psalm 100:4 (KJV) says: “Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.” So we need to be thankful often while also praising God regularly to come into his presence. While in his presence, we need to study his word and meditate often on it as a way of communicating with him. When we do these things, it becomes easy for us to know his will and to tailor our requests or decrees in line with his will at any point in time. This is how ELIJAH was able to decree that there will not be rain in Israel except at his word in 1 Kings 17:1 and there was no rain for three years until he cancelled his own decree in 1 Kings 18: 44-45. God honoured ELIJAH because he was always communicating with him. In 1 Kings 17:2, God communicated with Elijah immediately after his decree to confirm he was with him. You can do same only if you will fellowship often with God.
Action Point: Decree into your future believing that same decree would come to pass, and ensure you live a life of purity.
