Bible Reading: Job 24; Jam. 1:10-18
“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning” – James 1:17 (KJV).
Yesterday, we stated that we should ask God for wisdom. We can also ask God for several other good gifts. Matthew 7:7 (KJV) says: “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:”
God knows our limitations and expects us to come to him in humility to ask for whatever we need recognizing that he is able to provide our needs. The bible says in Philippians 4:19 (KJV): “But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” So God is ready to supply all our needs as long as we ask him in the right way.
Firstly our request must be in humility recognizing the supremacy and sovereignty of God.
Secondly, we should be obedient to him in our daily lives such that our lives testify to the purity of God.
Thirdly, whatever we ask for should primarily be to glorify God and not our flesh.
Underlying all these is the need for us to recognise that all gifts come from God. He is the creator of the heaven and earth (Gen 1:1). And he decrees everything into existence so no matter what the item is, all God does is to speak it into existence. Because he is the creator, he is also able to ensure that the item is perfectly done.
It therefore does not matter how big, perfect, mighty an item or gift is, it is the creation of God. This is why all humans should serve God and not any creation of God. We should therefore focus on the creator and not the created.
So when we do his will and, thus, please him, we can be rest assured that God will give us everything that will make us joyous. Thus in 3 John 1:2 (KJV), His word says: “Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.”
Prayer: Father, in the name of Jesus, give me the grace to seek first your kingdom and its righteousness so that all my needs may be met.
