Bible Reading: job 30, jam.3:1-9
“But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison” – James 3:8 (KJV).
The tongue is a muscular organ in the mouth. It is vital for chewing and swallowing food as well as for speech. The tongue is responsible for our speech or even language. Hence the bible says in 1 Corinthians 14:27 (KJV): “If any man speak in an unknown tongue, let it be by two, or at the most by three, and that by course; and let one interpret.”
The tongue can be used positively or negatively, hence the bible says in Proverbs 18:21 (KJV): “Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.” Thus whatsoever a man sows he will reap. So whatever things you say will manifest in your life. Thus, if you are fond of saying negative things, then you will experience negative events around you.
However the bible says in James 3:8 (KJV): “But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.”
How then do you avoid the deadly poison of the tongue? This is by accepting Jesus as your Lord and Saviour. The bible says in 2 Corinthians 5:17 (KJV): “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”
So when one becomes born again, his tongue will also become new and will be free from the poison knowing that Phil 4:13 says I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. The Lord Jesus guides you through the Holy Spirit on how you can guide your tongue because no man can, but the Lord Jesus will, if you surrender it to him. This taming of the tongue is done by renewing of our mind by the Holy Spirit as we meditate on the bible and live in accordance with the teachings.
So a key test of knowing if someone is born again is by checking the type of words coming out of his mouth.
Action Point: Is your tongue sanctified? If not, go to the Lord in prayer and ask for him to tame it.
