Bible Reading: Job 31, Jam. 3:10-18
“But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy” -James 3:17 (KJV)
Wisdom is correct application of knowledge. The type of knowledge will determine the type of wisdom. When a man uses his knowledge of how the church offering is kept after collection from the congregation to steal from the offering bag, he is applying wisdom but such is earthly and can only lead to death. Such wisdom is not pure and comes from the devil.
Wisdom from God Almighty comes from the correct application of knowledge of the word of God. Such wisdom will not lead you to do anything against the word of God because it is pure. In addition it will lead you to a peaceful end. If you apply any knowledge that will cause you to be in trouble with your neighbours, such wisdom cannot be from above.
Thus, in 1 Kings 3:16-27, where two harlots were disputing parenthood of a child, the decision by King Solomon that the child should be divided equally with a sword brought out the love of a mother to make the king decide on who the true mother was. The wisdom applied by the king brought peace to a situation of great dispute. That is what wisdom from above achieves. In taking that decision, the king did not have to fight or cause the warring women to fight, rather, he took a gentle decision. Such is wisdom from above. When the decision was reached, everybody that heard of the circumstance did not only agree that it was fair, they also expressed their pleasantness at the process and the outcome was such that even the woman that lost could not contest the decision. That is what wisdom from above does.
When God gives you wisdom from above, it causes the people around you to marvel at your intelligence because decisions arising from such wisdom always produce good fruits and mercy. This is why God says in Matthew 6:33 (KJV): “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you”. When we seek the face of the Lord at all times, we will not only take quality decisions at all such times but will be impacting the world positively. This is why God also advises us that every time we lack this wisdom, we should ask him and he will give us liberally. James 1:5 (KJV) says: “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.”
So let’s seek this wisdom from above which according to James 3:17 (KJV), “But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.”
Prayer: Father, fill me with your wisdom from above in Jesus name.
