Bible Reading: Job 39; 1 Pet. 2:1-8
“As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:” – 1 Peter 2:2 (KJV)
A few months ago, my daughter-in-law gave birth to a beautiful daughter and she breast fed her exclusively for the first three months. Subsequently, she gives her a combination of breast milk and processed milk and she has grown so big and healthy to the glory of God.
As the baby was nourished in milk so is a new convert in the Lord. When you just give your life to Christ, you are a new born baby in Christ and you need the nourishment of milk of the word. This essentially involves knowing the fundamental issues of Christianity. And the bible urges every new convert to long for the word of God the way a new baby long for the breast. Thus 1 Peter 2:2 (KJV) says: “As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:”
The best way to desire the word is by regular reading, studying, meditating and memorizing the word of God. One of the major problems of Christianity is that a number of converts tend to import some of the beliefs they had been conversant with in their previous faith. Unless you study the word of God quite well and listen to men of God and/or read their books, you may not quickly differentiate these things and may therefore grow with such beliefs.
It is, therefore, pertinent as a Christian to always seek the word of God that supports any action being taken.
Constant study of the word, praying continuously and constant fellowshipping with the Lord is the way of growing in Christ. In addition, you need to live a life of faith putting into practice what you read in the bible.
Part of the practice is going out to bring others to Christ by preaching the gospel, telling your audience how you met Christ and how He has affected your life.
Prayer: Father, increase me in the knowledge of you in Jesus name.
