Bible Reading: Psalm 21, 1 John 3: 1-8
“Behold, what manner of love the father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not” – 1 John 3: 1(KJV)
It staggers the mind to think of being the son of God by adoption. It blows the mind away to even imagine it. However, no matter how a wonder it seems, it remains the basic truth of redemption. The word behold in the passage can be interpreted to mean “look upon it and wonder”. We can then rephrase the verse as: “Look upon it and wonder (marvel) at the kind and quantity of love the Father has given freely and without merit to us, that we should be called the sons of God”. The knowledge of this truth is the tap root of miraculous living. It places you at the realm of absolute dominion like Jesus demonstrated when the disciples exclaimed: “what manner of man is this that even the sea obey him!” It is the strength of this knowledge that John wrote in 1 John 5.4(KJV): “For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.” It is on this premise that Apostle Peter wrote in 1 Peter 1:3-4(KJV): “According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue.”
The Father did not stop there, He has made us to be partakers of His divine nature. That is the seal of sonship in God, being made a partaker of His divine nature. God has given to us lavishly because of His Son, Jesus, who is the only begotten. Our Father in heaven did not withhold anything but gave to us abundantly through His indescribable love. No wonder the bible says that His love passes all knowledge. The operation of grace towards man by God remain incomprehensible to the human mind. The extension of His divine love defeats human thinking and philosophy. It looks so simple to be believed. However, the bible says “Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.” – 1 John 3:2 (KJV)
What a wonderful love God has demonstrated towards us. You have the right to choose or not choose to accept this great love. Joshua 24:15a(KJV) “And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve;…” Accepting the love of God and serving Him is a choice that you must make. You must choose between accepting the sonship of God, who has demonstrated great love to you by providing you a ransom for your sin, or to serve Satan who has imprisoned man in the dungeon of sin and suffering. You have this opportunity today to make this great choice, and like Joshua said “…but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD”.
Prayer: Father, thank you for bestowing me with such a great love.
