Bible Reading: Psalm 39: Revelation 1: 11-20
“I said, I will take heed to my ways, that I sin not with my tongue: I will keep my mouth with a briddle while the wicked is before me” – Psalm 39:1 (KJV).
One member of our body that we must conquer and keep in check is the tongue. The tongue though small and fragile is a very power organ of the body that can set the course of nature on fire. If properly harnessed, the tongue could be so constructive and powerful, but if not properly harnessed the tongue could be so destructive.
Life, families, relationships, marriages churches and organizations have been destroyed as a result of wrong use of the tongue. Ironically, the same tongue has put food on people’s tables, paid bills, built marriages, organizations and brought great fortunes to many.
Tongue that is properly managed or harnessed is an asset to the church and the kingdom. The bible says: “wherefore beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath” – James1:19(KJV).
The word of God and the Holy Spirit are our helpers in the harnessing of the tongue. As one meditates on the word, the mind is renewed making it possible for the right words to be spoken in the right mood, the right way and the right time. The right word spoken at the right time in the right way with the right spirit brings healing and builds up the hearers.
The Holy Spirit also helps to grow the seed of temperance or self control. As he grants us discipline and puts the right words in our mouth we minster grace and healing words to others.
PRAYER: Dear Lord, help me to properly harness my tongue in Jesus Name.
