Bible Reading: Psalm 40: Revelation 2:1-10
“I delight to do thy will, O my God: yea, thy law is within my heart” -Psalm 40:8 (KJV).
Our desires determine the direction of our lives. What we constantly and strongly desire we often become. Desires create the drive and proffer the direction. it clears the path and provides the passion needed to achieve what is desired.
We invest our resources (time, energy and money) in the things we desire. Such desire could be legitimate or illegitimate. Jacob desired the birthright so strongly that he gave up his plate of food for it. He desired blessings that he wrestled all night with God for it. Esau, on the contrary, desired food so much that he sacrificed his birthright for Jacob’s plate of food, a desire that cost him the right of the first born. For some, it is carnal desires that wreck their marriages, reputation and Christian lives.
The psalmist expressed his delight or desire to do God’s will. Such desire will enable strong commitment to meditate daily on the word of God and to obey them. It could equally enhance strong commitment to prayer and communion with God. Strong delight will weaken the temptation to sin. God has made it possible for us to desire him and his will by circumcising our hearts, removing the stony heart and replacing it with a heart of flesh. He went ahead to pour his love in our hearts and put his spirit within us. His laws are written in our hearts so we can delight in him. Obedience to God becomes easy when one develops strong delight or desire for God.
When God becomes one’s greatest delight, the spirit, soul and body begin to long for God making a victorious Christian life possible.
PRAYER: Dear Lord, be my strong delight throughout 2018 in Jesus name.
