Bible Reading: Psalm 74
“Remember thy congregation, which thou has purchased of old; the rod of thine inheritance, which thou hast redeemed; this mount Zion, wherein thou hast dwelt” – Psalm 74:2 (KJV).
We will start this series of meditational piece by properly defining Mount Zion as it relates to us – the redeemed of the Lord. From the above scriptural verse we can deduce the first definition of Mount Zion as God’s congregational dwelling place. This definition completely tallies with the definition and description of Mount Zion as shown in Hebrews 12: 22- 24(KJV), “But ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels, To the general assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect, And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel”. From the above scriptures we can further define Mount Zion as follows: (1) The city of the living God, (2) The heavenly Jerusalem. What are the components of Mt. Zion? Who are those present in mount Zion, the city of the living God? From our above stated verses of scriptures we can state those present in Mount Zion the city of the living God as follows:
- Innumerable company of angels,
- General assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven,
- God the Judge of all,
- Spirits of Just men made perfect,
- Jesus Christ the mediator of the new covenant and
- The blood of sprinkling
General assembly and the church of the firstborn.
The redeemed are the general assembly and church of the firstborn whose names are written in the book of life. They are the saints who embraced the salvation of Christ and committed their life to live a life of holiness and consecration. These are they who have been endowed with the righteousness of Christ. They are those who fought the battles of life carrying the banner of Love. These are they whose names are written in the book of life. They are them who suffered persecution for Christ and paid the ultimate price. Jesus is the Firstborn of the saints, the redeemed and purchased possession as stated in Colossians 1:15(KJV), “Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:” Again the bible further elucidate the personality of Christ in its fullness in Colossians 1:18(KJV) “And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence”.
Prayer: Father grant me an understanding of the mystery of Mount Zion, so as to make my worship unto you acceptable.
