Bible Reading: Psalm 90
“So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom. O satisfy us early with thy mercy: that we may rejoice and be glad all our days” Psalm -. 90:12,14(KJV)
Every day people celebrate their birthday. In most cases they organize big parties and waste huge resources celebrating their attainment of certain age. A lot of people commit different levels of atrocity on the day of their birthday celebration in the name of enjoyment. Some young virgins lose their virginity on that day to rascality of celebration. People are so busy with celebration that they completely sideline the essence of birth days. Like as the Psalmist stated above, it is expected to be a day of sober reflection. It is expected to be a time when someone should carry out an evaluation of his/her life, how he/she had lived, what has been achieved, how much has he or she contributed to the wellbeing of others, and his/her relationship with her fellow being. It is expected to be a time to reflect on how your existence to date has imparted on others negatively or positively. When you have carried out such personal assessment it will enable you to apply your heart unto wisdom as you begin to realize that you have very limited time to make amends where you failed and to improve in areas where you would have imparted positively but not considered good enough.
The wisdom to number our days was delivered to us as the idea of celebrating our birth days. During your birth day you take stock of the number of years, days, and where possible, hours. The mystery of birth day celebration is that you can tell how long you had lived, but cannot tell how long you will live. The latter is an unknown variable that is only known to God. However, God gave us an idea of the pegging of our existence on earth in various scriptures. In Genesis 6:3(KJV), “And the LORD said, my Spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.” In Psalm 90:10(KJV), the Psalmist said in prophecy, “The days of our years are threescore and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years,…….”
We have witnessed men and women who lived above hundred years in our various societies. Longevity is a gift from God, but to be a recipient of that gift you must incline your heart to doing good and living by scriptural instructions and commandments of God. The bible says that he that dwells in the secret place of the Most High God shall be under His protection and He will satisfy him with long life and prosperity. The mercies of God are given to those who seek it through repentance. When we are recipients of such mercy we will remain in joyfulness and gladness of heart all through our years of sojourn on earth. It is on this premise that the Psalmist sought early satisfaction with God’s mercy because it guarantees longevity.
Dear reader, the bible said “Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:” – John 11:25(KJV). Accepting Christ as your Lord and Saviour is accepting life into your being. The earlier you accept him to rule over your life the better and more desirable because His words are life to them that find them and health to all their flesh (Proverbs 4:22).
Prayer: Father, let your indwelling word manifest in my life through divine health.
