Bible Reading: Psalm 102
“Thou shalt arise, and have mercy upon Zion: for the time to favour her, yea, the set time, is come.” – Psalm 102:13 (KJV)
God is ever merciful and always ready to show mercy to his children. In Romans 9:15 (KJV), God told Moses “…………, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.” So his mercy is not dispensed based on your good works or your position in life. It entirely depends on the discretion of the Almighty God. That’s why he says in Romans 9:16 (KJV), “So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy.”
Mercy, by Merriam-Webster dictionary, is compassion or forbearance shown especially to an offender or to one subject to one’s power. And since all human beings are subject to God’s power, we are all candidates of his mercy, and by extension, his favour. Psalm 119:64 (KJV) says: “The earth, O Lord, is full of thy mercy: teach me thy statutes.” While his mercy is available to all, it is easily accessible to those who surrender themselves completely to him in fellowship and obedience to his will. It is the willingness, obedience, humility and perseverance of Moses that gave him easy access to the mercy of God.
Also, we see a lot of Christians comparing king Saul and King David and often wondering how David was able to access the favour of God more than king Saul. They often forget the concept of Mercy as stated by God himself in his words to Moses in Romans 9:15-16. One lesson that is obvious from the account of both Kings Saul and David is that of Worship. David was a worshipper and it’s obvious that our father love to be worshipped. Hence the Psalmist wrote in Psalm 100:4 (KJV), “Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.”
So anytime you want to call forth, the favour of God, you should begin by thanking him and then praise him as much as you can. He will not only open his gates and courts to you but also cause you to be favoured. Hence he says in Psalm 102:13 (KJV): “Thou shalt arise, and have mercy upon Zion: for the time to favour her, yea, the set time, is come.”
God is set to favour you today but you need to be his child first so that he can recognise your thanksgiving and praises.
Action Point: Thank God for what he has done for you in the past and praise him for who he is for at least thirty minutes today and be expectant of his favour.
