Bible Reading: Psalm 108
“Give us help from trouble: for vain is the help of man” – Psalm 108:12 (KJV)
Man is limited in resources and does not have absolute control of the resources at its disposal. Man may plan to help but may be short of resources. Sometimes ago, I planned to pay the school fees of an indigent student and I told her that she should call me or tell her mum to call anytime she got admission so that I would pay the school fees. However by the time she got the admission and called me, I did not have the resource as I was under financial pressure myself.
Though I wanted to pay but my capability had changed and was no longer in a position to pay. Fortunately, the student was able to get the fee from another source. But this is a typical case of vanity of man’s promise or help. This is due to the limitation of man by himself. Man does not have absolute control over his time, finance, health, position or even life. All depend on God. Why then should you depend on the help of a man who may never see the following day? That is why Psalm 108:12 (KJV) says: “Give us help from trouble: for vain is the help of man.”
What are the things you are expecting from men? Employment, money, counseling, connection, etc. Call on God and expect the best from him by faith. That’s why the Psalmist says, in Psalm 121:1-2 (KJV), “I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord , which made heaven and earth.”
We also have assurance from God that he will answer us. Jeremiah 33:3 (KJV) says: “Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.” So focus on the creator and not the creation. But this can only give you the desired result if you have accepted Jesus into your life as your Lord and Saviour. If not, please call on him today and ask for mercy.
Action point: List the areas where you need help and ask God to come to your aid in those areas.
