Bible Reading: Psalm 111
“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments : his praise endureth for ever.” – Psalm 111:10 (KJV).
Wisdom is generally defined as correct application of knowledge. There is a lot of information available to people of this age as there are several ways by which you can get such information. From Internet and the social media. However, correct application of knowledge gathered requires more than mere knowledge. This is where God plays a critical part. When Solomon was faced with the decision as to who owns a baby out of two women who claimed ownership of a baby. It was clear knowledge that the baby could only belong to one mother but there was no opportunity for DNA testing as technology had not developed up to that then. How then could a king decide on the true mother? It was wisdom from above. By the time the king applied the wisdom, the true owner was easily identified.
But how do you get wisdom? One way of having it is by listening to or studying those who are more experienced in the area under consideration so that you can apply the knowledge you have the way it had been done in the past. However the world is not static. It keeps changing. Besides, the future is getting more challenging to predict as we saw in the last global recession where the economic theories were defied. One needs to have a greater understanding than the historical facts can show to be able to exhibit wisdom.
However another source of wisdom is Satan. Because it is in charge of this world, ( 2 Cor 4:4) it has understanding of the issues and able to give wisdom that will appear to win in the circumstance but will eventually lead to death. Jesus Christ our Lord recognises the wisdom of Serpent and that’s why he said in Matthew 10:16 (KJV) “Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.”
But the wisdom that will lead to Iife and joy is that which is from the source of wisdom himself. In 1 Corinthians 1:24 (KJV), the bible says “But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.” So Christ is the wisdom of God. To have this wisdom therefore, you need to have Christ in you hence the need to give your life to Christ. Once you accept him, you will need to obey his commandments and one of those is to fear God. Ecclesiastes 12:13 KJV says “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.”
Once you fear the Lord, you will be filled with Wisdom because the bible says in Psalm 111:10 (KJV), “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments : his praise endureth for ever.”
Prayer point: Father, as I continue to obey you, fill me with your wisdom
