Bible Reading: Psalm 119: 34-64
“The proud have had me greatly in derision: yet have I not declined from thy law.” -Psalm 119:51 (KJV).
Every product manufactured by a good company has a user manual on how the product is to be used. For such a product to be optimized, the user has to read the manual and follow it. Where a user assumes that he knows the usage of the product and uses it as he deems fit, he runs the risk of misusing the product and losing the warranty on the product.
A story is told of an African athlete that bought a new car in Europe and filled it with petrol. After a few kilometers, the vehicle stopped and he called the vendor to report. Upon enquiry, it was found that he filled the car with petrol instead of diesel. By that singular act, he lost the warranty on the vehicle.
This is similar to the case of human beings whose manufacturer (God Almighty) has produced a manual ( the bible) on how best to function. This manual is the Holy bible. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 (KJV) says: “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.” Sadly, most people do not check the manual and those that check it do not follow it. The bible sets the precepts clearly but some people prefer to do things their way because of the demands of the flesh. And anyone that knowingly refuses to obey the word of God is proud. The word of God is quite clear on the proud. James 4:6 (KJV) says: “But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.”
Those who are proud concerning the word of God often think they are wise but they forget the word of God in 1 Corinthians 1:25 (KJV), “Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.” So a true child of God will not mind the comments and disdain shown by the proud concerning obedience to God’s law. The psalmist says in Psalm 119:51 (KJV), “The proud have had me greatly in derision: yet have I not declined from thy law.”
Obedience to God’s law guarantees safety, promotion, fruitfulness, joy, peace, success, good health among others ( Deut. 28:1-14).
Prayer point: Father, give me the grace to obey your word at all times in Jesus name.
