Bible Reading: Psalm 124
“Our help is in the name of the Lord, who made heaven and earth.“ – Psalm 124:8 (KJV)
Everyone needs help at one point or the other. Indeed, you would have received help from one person or the other in the past. This is because God created us as dependent beings and he also encourages us to have fellowship with each other. 1 John 1:7 (KJV) says: “But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.”
God’s plan for us is to support each other which explains why he created Eve after Adam. Genesis 2:18 (KJV) says: “And the Lord God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.” God also demonstrated the need for us to help each other when Elisha asked a widow of one of the sons of the prophets to go and borrow a lot of vessels from all her neighbour to produce oil to pay her debt ( 2 Kings 4:1-7). God showed us at different times why we should fellowship with each other; to help each other. The bible says in Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 (KJV) “Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour. For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but woe to him that is alone when he falleth; for he hath not another to help him up.”
So human beings were created to help each other. However, while it is expected that you should ask for help from your neighbour or whoever has the ability to meet your need, your focus on getting that help should not be on him. You should recognize that the ultimate help is from God, the father, who can cause the giver to give you what you need. Sometimes we look unto men for help because we believed they should have the resource that we need but due to other factors, that person may not have it. On the other hand, God who is the creator of heaven and earth can provide all our needs in abundance without him feeling it. No wonder the Psalmist says in Psalm 23:5 (KJV): “Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.” The fact that the cup runs over is to show there is more from the source, the Almighty. We should go to the source at all times.
Prayer point: Lord Jesus, I look unto you , please make haste to help me.
