Bible Reading: Psalm 128:1-6
“Blessed is every one that feareth the Lord ; that walketh in his ways.” – Psalm 128:1 (KJV).
Fearing God is explained in Psalm 128:1 (KJV): “Blessed is every one that feareth the Lord ; that walketh in his ways.” This implies obedience to the commandments of God. While it may be very difficult to be completely obedient to God’s word when we try to do so by our wisdom, if we surrender ourselves to the Holy Spirit, we find out that it is easier. The key to the fear of God therefore is to be baptized in the Holy Ghost and be completely surrendered to him. When we do so, it implies that we have surrendered our will for the will of God and it becomes easier to obey God!
But how do we get to this level? We must have accepted Jesus as our Lord and Saviour and be desirious to be filled with the Holy Spirit of God. Holy Spirit baptism usually come after water baptism but it is not always so; you may be baptized in the Holy Ghost before water baptism. The only condition precedent to Holy Ghost baptism is being born again.
If you are, then you are eligible for the baptism. All you need is to thirst for it and ask God to fill you with the power. The clear outward evidence of Holy Ghost baptism is speaking in tongues. As soon as you have the power, you begin to speak in tongues as shown in Acts 2:4 when the disciples received the baptism. Another example is in Acts 10:44-46 when Cornelius and his brethren were filled with power and they spoke in tongues.
When we fear the Lord, Psalm 128 tells us clearly our benefits:
1. The person would be blessed (vs 1) and fruitful (vs 2).
2. He shall not be barren (vs 3a),
3. The children shall grow well (vs 3b),
4. Shall eat the fruit of the land (vs 5),
5. Shall have long life (vs 6a) and
6. Your nation shall be peaceful ( vs 6c).
Prayer: Father, fill me afresh with your Holy Spirit today in Jesus name.
