Bible Reading: Ecclesiastes 5: 1-20
“He that Loveth silver shall not be satisfied with silver, nor he that loveth abundance with increase. This is also vanity” – Ecclesiastes 5:10 (KJV).
Money and material things have their places in our lives here on earth, but as important as they are, none of these (money and material things) can give us true satisfaction in life. They certainly will contribute to our comfort and well being. They can enhance our happiness and give us some level of pleasure, but none of them is meant to give us true and lasting satisfaction. Peace, Joy and true hope can only come from God. The truth is that the more we have, the more we will crave for money and material things.
There is always a desire to have more and more and more. We could be deceived to believe that if we have more money we will be satisfied, we will be more peaceful and joyful, perfect and complete, wanting nothing. This erroneous belief can make one to begin to pursue wealth to find fulfillment and satisfaction in life. One will ultimately discover that material pursuit is not the key to true satisfaction; there is a void in every heart that only God can fill. When he takes his place in one’s life, he brings joy, peace, hope and true satisfaction.
The bible says to warn the rich in this world not to be high-minded or trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God who gives us richly all things to enjoy. (1 Timothy 6:17). We can only have true satisfaction when we pursue God, his kingdom and his values. The love of money remains the root of all evil. When we pour our love on God he will give us all things to enjoy because his blessing makes rich and add no sorrow.
PRAYER: Lord, may I find true satisfaction in your love.
