Bible Reading: Song of Solomon 8
“Many waters cannot quench love, neither can the floods drown it; if a man would give all the substance of his house for love, it would utterly be contemned” – Song of Solomon 8:7 (KJV).
The Christian love, like any other love, will go through trials and challenges. Such trials could threaten such love. The difference between infatuation, lust or genuine love is the abiding capacity or nature of love. While trials and challenges may tear mere lust and infatuation apart, such trial and challenges will strengthen genuine love. God’s kind of love, “agape,” will smile and grow in the face of trials and challenges. Not even ridicule, afflictions, trials or death could hinder the love of Christ for us. “Now before the feast of the Passover, when Jesus knew that his hour was come, that he should depart out of this world unto the Father, having loved his own which were in the world, he loved them unto the end” – John 13:1 (KJV). The love of Jesus was sacrificial, selfless, enduring and redeeming love. There was nothing we did to deserve it. He refused to allow mockery, pains persecution or death to quench his love for us. He laid down his life for us. “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends” – John 15:13 (KJV).
Apostle Paul embraced this genuine love and made a strong commitment not to let trials and threat of death to stop his love for God and for ministry. He said he was prepared, not only to suffer, but to die for the Lord. “Then Paul answered, what mean ye to weep and to break my heart? For I am ready not to be bound only, but also to die at Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus” – Acts 21:13 (KJV). Nothing could stop him from loving Jesus and from pursuing his mission, hear his passion:
“For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord” – Romans 8:38-39 (KJV).
PRAYER: Dear Lord, may my love triumph over life’s storms in Jesus name.
