Bible Reading: 2 Chro. 2; Phil 2:16-30.
“And Solomon determined to build an house for the name of the Lord , and an house for his kingdom.” – 2 Chronicles 2:1 (KJV)
When you determine to honour a dignitary with a gift, how do you prepare the gift? The level of preparation will obviously depend on the level of the resources at your disposal as well as the status of the person you plan to honour. If the gift is to a President, you will be careful how well you package it to appeal to him. Now, God is the President of presidents and so the packaging should be a lot more appealing. This explains the preparation, the number of men and choice of materials that Solomon planned to use to build a house for God as we see in 2 Chron 2:1-18. It is obvious that he was determined to build a great house for God. This is succinctly stated in 2 Chronicles 2:1 (KJV): “And Solomon determined to build an house for the name of the Lord , and an house for his kingdom.”
This is exactly what God expects of each of us in building a house for Him. A house based on determination to honour Him. The first house expected of us is our body. Hence the bible says in 1 Corinthians 3:16 (KJV): “Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?” So our body should be treated with a lot of care. We should nurture it everyday knowing that it is the tabernacle where God resides. This also means we should not do to our body anything that God does not like. This is why Apostle Paul enjoined the Colossians in Colossians 3:5 (KJV): “Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:”
For you to honour God therefore, you must show it by honouring your body that is God’s temple, by ensuring you live a life pleasing to him.
Prayer: Father give me the grace to put my body under subjection to please you at all times in Jesus name.
