…Spreading the gospel of Christ

WORD MEDITATION: 09/09/2018

Bible Reading: 2 Chro. 7; Col. 1:1-15.

“Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:” – Colossians 1:13 (KJV)

Darkness is generally understood as polar opposite of brightness. It is lack of illumination or absence of visible light. Since God is light, darkness connotes everything that is anti God. Our understanding of darkness is brightened by our eyes. When your eyes are closed everything around you will be dark. It is interesting that as small as the eyes are, compared with the whole body, its blindness closes the chapter to physical light for that individual.

Some years ago, a young daughter of a family friend came to visit us in Nigeria from USA and on one of the nights, the electric power was off. Because she wasn’t used to the situation, when she woke up at that period, she couldn’t see anything and started shouting calling the mother that she was blind! Well we had to quickly switch on the electricity generating set to show she was not blind and how glad she was!

Drawing from that example, one can imagine what people are willing to do to receive their sight. Now such sights will only enable you see the physical things and it will last for a limited time since the time of man on earth is also limited. However, there is a sight that will last forever! That is the sight that comes from accepting Jesus as your Lord and Saviour.

Every natural man is a sinner. Romans 3:23 (KJV) “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;” this implies that all sinners are in darkness; and the only way to get out of that darkness is by accepting Jesus as your Lord and Saviour. Hence Colossians 1:13 (KJV), “Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:” If you have not given your life to Christ, this is an opportunity for you to gain access to that everlasting light. Please call on Jesus now asking him for forgiveness of your sins, promise to forsake those sins and accept him as your Lord and Saviour.

Prayer point: Father let your light shine on me and illuminate any dark spot that may be hidden in any part of my life in Jesus name.
