Bible Reading: Job 3; Hebrews 7:19-28
“For such an high priest became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens” – Hebrews 7: 26 (KJV)
There are people whose name when mentioned is rebuffed, treated with disgust and contempt. We have seen many people in the world that upon hearing their names there is this sense of disgust and ill-feeling against their persons because of their unworthy lifestyles. This ill feeling, as a result of unpleasant lifestyle, made people keep a distance from such people. But this is not so with the person of Christ. What He did for humanity earned Him an enviable place. This made Him a King that is worthy of following, and anyone who follows Him shall never get lost.
Christ is the worthy High Priest to follow for the following reasons:
He ushered in better hope. This is what draws us closer to God.
His priesthood was with oath by God (v. 20-21)
He is the surety of a better testamen (V. 22)
His priesthood is forever (V. 23-24, 28)
He has capacity to save those who come to God through Him (V. 25)
He is holy, harmless, and separated from sinners. We also should be the same. Even as we try to get other people saved, we must never be contaminated by their sins. All activities must be done with purity.
His sacrifice for sins was ‘once and for all’ unlike the other previous priests (V. 27)
Jesus Christ is unique therefore. He guarantees a salvation that cannot be secured by anyone else. Why not now accept this unique salvation?
Prayer point: Lord, thank you for being my high priest. Thank you for making atonement for my sin. Help me, through your grace, to walk in your will in Jesus name.
