Bible Reading: Job 13; Heb. 10:26-33
“If we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, but a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.” – Hebrews 10: 26-27 KJV)
When a person deliberately rejects Christ offer of salvation, he or she rejects God’s precious gift of life. He or she ignores the heeding of the Holy Spirit; the one who communicates to us God’s saving grace.
Though, this warning was originally given to Jewish Christians who were tempted to reject Christ for Judaism, it equally applies to anyone who rejects Christ for another religion or belief in this pluralistic society we are now.
The point is that there is no other acceptable sacrifice for sin than the death of Christ on the cross. If someone deliberately rejects the sacrifice of Christ after gaining clear understanding of the Gospel and its teachings, then there is no way for the person to be saved, because God has not provided any other name under the heavens by which we can be saved. (Acts 4:12)
What are the wilful sins that you are currently giving your lives to? These could also mean the presumptuous sins David bitterly cried out against: “keep back thy servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me: then shall I be upright, and I shall be innocent from great transgression” – Psalm 19:13 (KJV). You must keep a tight rein from the arrow of wilful sin that the enemy may want to unleash against you.
The people of old were not spared when they turned back into sin. Swift judgment visited their inconsistency: “he that despised Moses’ law died without mercy under two or three witnesses” – Hebrew 10:28 (KJV). Friends, when God, His Son and the Holy Spirit are witnessing against you, do you think you would escape His judgment? Hear the Scriptures “of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace? For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, the Lord shall judge his people” – Hebrews 10:29-30(KJV). Perhaps you are contemplating it now, never try to turn away from following the Lord, it has grievous consequences. Remember, it is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God. Keep steps with God till the end.
Prayer Points: O God, keep me from backsliding in Jesus name.
