Bible Reading: Job 26; James 2:1-7.
“Lo, these are parts of his ways: but how little a portion is heard of him? but the thunder of his power who can understand?” – Job 26:14 (KJV).
What is your knowledge of God? As you draw close to the end of this year, you should step back and ask yourself; how well do u know this God? Yes, you have probably read a lot and heard a lot about him but what is the level of your experiential knowledge of Him? Besides what you hear from others about how he has affected their lives, how has he affected your life? If he has not impacted your life directly in a way you have felt it, you can not truly relate with him as a father.
As a Muslim, I was worshipping Allah and relating with him in a master servant relationship. He was to be feared and not loved. However, when I became a Christian, my understanding changed. I am to love God and fear him; relate with him as my father, speak to him and also hear him! And indeed, there is no better way of relating to him without hearing him. How can you have a father that does not speak with you or speaks with you but you do not understand him. How can such a relationship grow?
Let’s take a look at this God. He is powerful and can do all things. The bible says in Luke 1:37 (KJV): “For with God nothing shall be impossible.” But is that your experiential knowledge of him? Are there seemingly impossible things he has done in your life? It does not matter what the issues are; whether spiritual, health, financial, or even social! He can attend to the need but you must relate with him as his child. We know very little of his powers because he can do all things! Job 26:14 (KJV) says: “Lo, these are parts of his ways: but how little a portion is heard of him? but the thunder of his power who can understand?”
Do you hear him? Like your earthly father, you need to fellowship with him regularly to show your love for him. You also need to live a life of obedience to his word to please him at all times. With this, he will also relate with you tenderly. He can speak with you through a still small voice to your heart through the bible. As you read it, he can tell you how the passage relates to you through your heart. He can speak with you loudly as if your earthly father is speaking with you. It can also be in dreams, visions or prophecies. If you had not been hearing him, to start with, you need to be attentive to him and be ready to hear him anytime you fellowship with him in praise and worship, study the bible, pray or even listen to a message. Just stay for a few minutes after the event listening to your heart.
Action Point: Praise God for about an hour today and prepare to hear him for a few minutes immediately after.
