Bible Reading: Job 37; 1 Peter 1:9-16
“But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;” – 1 Peter 1:15 (KJV)
Holiness is the hallmark of a good Christian. And you cannot be God’s true child if you are not living a life of righteousness. One of the basic ways of knowing a true child of God is what comes out of his mouth. The Lord Jesus says in Matthew 12:34 (KJV): “O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.”
While you may pretend for a while in your conversation, it is a matter of time the truth will come out soon. This is why Jesus says in Matthew 12:37 (KJV): “For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.” You therefore need to ensure you speak to people in a way that is pleasing to God. It is pertinent to also watch the company you keep because they will rub off on you. If you move with those who use foul languages often, you will soon join them. That’s why 1 Corinthians 15:33 (KJV) says: “Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.”
As disciples of Christ, therefore, you need to emulate Christ in your conversation with everyone. This is why Jesus Christ says in 1 Peter 1:15 (KJV): “But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;” Beside the fact that your conversation is a key determinant of whether you will make heaven or not, (Matthew 12:36-37) it also influences your success in life as the bible says in Proverbs 18:20 (KJV): “A man’s belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; and with the increase of his lips shall he be filled.”
So the manner of your conversation is not only important here on earth, it is also key in your journey to heaven.
