“But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s meat, nor with the wine which he drank.” – Daniel 1:8a
Nebuchadnezzar conquered Judah in battle, and carried some of the young men to Shinar his capital, among the men were Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah. Nebuchadnezzar told the master of the eunuchs to prepare some men who would stand before him as counselors. Among them were these four Hebrews whose names were changed to Babylonian names. They, like others were to be fed of the defiled food and wine, but Daniel and his three brethren rejected the food and wine and opted for simple but pure vegetable and just water. The Eunuch feared that their poor countenance would bring him problem. Daniel asked for ten days to prove the superiority of their God, his meat, wisdom, and power to nourish his children.
And at the end of ten days, their countenances appeared fairer and fatter in flesh than all the children which did eat the portion of the king’s meat. – Daniel 1:15
As for these four children, God gave them knowledge and skill in all learning and wisdom: – Daniel1:17
And in all matters of wisdom and understanding, that the king enquired of them, HE FOUND THEM TEN TIMES BETTER than all the magicians and astrologers that were in all his realm. – Daniel 1:20
Are you faced with a challenge that seems impossible? Take time out to be with God and prove by prayer and fasting that your God is alive and well.
Prayer: I pray for you that before this year runs out God will arise on your behalf. In Jesus name.
