Bible Reading: Psalm 43; Revelation 3:1-11
“O send out thy light and thy truth: let them lead me; let them bring me unto thy holy hill, and to thy tabernacles” – Psalm 43:3 (KJV).
The word of God is the truth; it is a guiding light in times of confusion bringing illumination in darkness. The word of God not only illuminates the eyes for sight or vision, it equally illuminates the heart or mind for decision, for choices and for direction. The truth is not just an idea, it is much more than that, it is not just a philosophy but a person – the person of Jesus.
“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the father, but by me” – John 14:6 (KJV). Jesus also declared that He is the light that offers direction and guidance in life. “Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life” – John 8:12 (KJV). God sends out his light by sending the gospel to a person or to a community. The gospel (the truth) brings direction and salvation. It helps the sinner find the path back to God. No one can come into relationship with God without the true light of the gospel. The word of God guides our choices, our ways, and our decisions. “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path” – Psalm 119:105 (KJV). It proffers direction and orders our steps.
The unbelievers need to come to the light of the truth. This puts the responsibility on the believers in Christ to preach the gospel so the lost can come to the light as they are confronted with the truth. Christians also need to constantly meditate on the truth of the gospel to enhance their walk with God and enlighten their minds and their path. God guides the saints by the truth of the gospel. The more one meditates on the truth, the more light invades one’s heart and path. God admonished Joshua to give attention to the word so he can successfully lead Israel to her destiny. “This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth but thou shall meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein; for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success” – Joshua 1:8 (KJV).
PRAYER: Dear Lord, send your light in this dark world in Jesus name.
