Bible Reading: NUMBERS 3&4; MARK 3:19-35
“No man can enter into a strong man’s house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strong man; and then he will spoil his house” – Mark 3:27 (KJV).
Spoil brought home from war is an evidence of victory in the war. This was one of the reasons why King Saul brought back king Agag and sheep from his battle with the Amalek. How could he show up and boost his ego as a strong king who humiliated and defeated Amalek and their king without any spoil to show for it; even though God instructed that he should utterly destroy everything, King Saul’s ego would not allow him to come back after such overwhelming victory without a single spoil to show for his victory.
He could not have brought back spoil without first defeating King Agag and his captain. As in the physical realm, same is true in the spirit realm.
There is strongman over every community, territory or nation. The spirit that controls the affairs and the leadership of a people is the strongman. The strongman influences and manipulates the people and their lots. The strongman has such a strong grip over the people and the territory where he operates. The strongman is the power broker. He has strong stake in the lives and affairs of the people. The strongman over a people decides what the people enjoy or what they suffer. There could be a strongman over an individual, over a family, over a community or over a nation. The strongman could be related to the deity of the people. It could be a familiar spirit, an ancestral spirit, or a witchcraft spirit etc.
Daniel had to wait for twenty one days to receive the answer to his prayer because the prince of Persia (the strongman over the community) denied angel Gabriel bringing the answer access to the territory (Daniel 10:12-13). It took angel Michael conquering the strongman for angel Gabriel to access Daniel. The strongman can place limitations, cast a spell on the people and build walls to hinder them from making progress. The good news is that Christians have authority to bind the strongman and spoil his house.
PRAYER: Thank you Lord for giving me authority to deal with the strongman in my community.
