Bible Reading: Deut.1 & 2. Mark: 10:1-26
“And the LORD said unto me, Behold I have begun to give Sihon and his land before thee: begin to possess, that thou mayest inherit his land.” – Deuteronomy 2:31 (KJV)
God expects us to move in the direction of His promises in His Word, which are words of prophecy. When God’s word declares in prophecy that you shall prosper and be in health even as your soul prospers (3 John 1:2), it requires that you eat well and work with your hands for it is in the work of your hand that God will cause you to prosper. You must take action in tandem with God’s word to bring about the fulfilment of prophecy. God did not tell the people of Israel to stay idle and watch while Sihon and his land become their possession. He asked them to begin to possess. You don’t sit down to possess, you move to possess. In Deut. 2:24 (KJV), God said to Moses, “Rise ye up, take your journey, and pass over the river Arnon: behold, I have given into thine hand Sihon the Amorite, King of Hesbon, and his land begin to possess it, and contend with him in battle.”
To possess requires some action while to contend connotes the use of force and element of aggression. Like the above prophecy, all prophecy in the scriptures giving us possession requires an element of contention. On this premise the bible says in James 4:7 (KJV), “Submit yourselves to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.” Submitting oneself to God is through obedience to His word, and when you have done that resist the devil via the word and he will flee from you. You cannot resist the devil with physical strength and prevail. You require the power of God’s word to put the devil where he belongs. God expect us to work with Him to bring about the full manifestation of His intention which we received as prophecy. When we move in accordance with God’s word, we become channels through which God’s word will manifest.
In line with the above prophecy Israel did not fold their hands but went into battle to challenge Sihon the Amorite in. In Deut. 2:32 (KJV) “Then Sihon came out against us, he and all his people, to fight at Jahaz.” When Israel confronted Sihon God’s word began to manifest. In Deut. 2:33-34(KJV) the bible said “And the LORD our God delivered him before us; and we smote him, and his sons, and all his people. And we took all his cities at that time and utterly destroyed the men, and women, and the little ones, of every city, we left none to remain.” Dear reader I prophesy into your that as you commit yourself to serve God all your enemies must be destroyed in Jesus name.
Prayer: Father help me to live by your word to adequately contend with the enemy.
