Bible Reading: 2 Sam. 6, 7 & 8. Luke 15: 1-16..
“And thine house and thy kingdom shall be established for ever before thee: thy throne shall be established forever.” – 2 Samuel 7:16 (KJV)
God does not fail. His promises stand for ever. No matter how seemingly impossible it looks, He will fulfill it. And God is always full of pleasant surprises particularly if you surprise him first just as human beings are fond of rewarding handsomely those that honour them. Some years ago, I was celebrating my birthday and one of my children gave me the latest iPhone then. It was a pleasant surprise. Though I could afford it then, it was not my priority and the fact that he gave it to me while I was not expecting it made it a pleasant surprise. I prayed simply for him and he got a more pleasant surprise that money could not buy!
Similarly, this is what happened when David thought about building a tabernacle for the Ark of God and based on that thought alone, God gave him a pleasant surprise by promising his house to remain on the throne forever! His message to David was in 2 Samuel 7:16 (KJV), “And thine house and thy kingdom shall be established for ever before thee: thy throne shall be established for ever.” In the same vein, Solomon gave a thousand burnt offerings unto the Lord at Gibeon and God gave him pleasant surprise of wisdom and riches like no other king (1 Kings 3:4-13).
Also, our Lord Jesus offered himself as a sacrifice to atone for our sins and God has highly exalted him and gave him a name above every other name ( Phil 2:9-10). God is thus ready and willing to surprise everyone pleasantly as long as we are also ready to do something to honour him. No wonder he said in his word in 1 Sam 2:30 (KJV) ” …Be it far from me; for them that honour me I will honour, and they that despise me shall be lightly esteemed.”
It is time you also get pleasant surprises from God and if you had gotten some, you can get a lot more by giving something special to God. One certain gift you can give to God and you will get pleasant surprise is winning of souls. If you had been winning once a week, double or triple your effort backed up with prayer before embarking on it. And if you had never done it before, start it and see how God will start something pleasant in your life.
Action Point: Give something pleasantly surprising to God and you will be amazed at God’s response.
