Bible Reading: II Kings 17, 18; John 3:19-36
“Ye yourselves bear me witness, that I said, I am not the Christ, but that I am sent before him” – John 3:28 (KJV).
People believe that proper rating of oneself provides opportunity for one to attract more attention. After Christ has dealt with the issue of condemnation that awaits those who constantly romance evil resulting in their being distant from the light came the subject of baptism. The attitude of some who are claiming that, they have an encounter with Jesus towards baptism is discouraging. Even our Lord encouraged this to be done by those who believe… “He that believeth and is baptised shall be saved…” Mark 16:16. The early church never relent in this practice.
The disciples of John came to him and raised an issue about the one who was with him beyond Jordan. The man who was sensitive and has never lost his antennae with heaven realised the Person whom they were referring to and said, “A man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven” – John 3:27(KJV). John further made it clear to them that they were all witnesses of what he had earlier said about his person. The Scripture expresses it better “Ye yourselves bear me witness, that I said, I am not the Christ, but that I am sent before him” – John 3:28(KJV).
How do you always rate yourself? Some have overrated themselves and as a result met their waterloo. John understood the mandate he was given by God and was never willing to operate beyond that scope even when he was instigated by his own followers. A proverb says, ‘someone that was taught evil and carry it out has the intention to do it before but only waiting who would stir him.’ Whenever, the temptation comes to overrate yourself, remember John. He always wish the Master to gain increase while he decrease. Until this becomes your daily prayer, you can never attain the position designed for you by God.
Prayer Point: Dear Father, I receive grace to remain within the scope of your rating for me in Jesus Christ name.
