Bible Reading: 1 Chronicles 1, 2, 3; John 5:25-47
“There is another that beareth witness of me; and I know that the witness which he witnesseth of me is true” – John 5:32 (KJV)
The witness is very important in most court cases as it helps to clarify issues before the jury. The relevant information the witness has with him more often than not made him a sought after by both the lawyers and the accused. Jesus Christ who never and can never lie aptly says: “If I bear witness of myself, my witness is not true” – John 5:30 (KJV). He in essence helps us to see that He does not come to blow His personal trumpet since there are those saddled with that responsibility.
The Saviour minces no word but rather quickly let His audience know that there is one who bears witness of Him. This is clearly seen when He was coming out from the water after baptism at the commencement of His ministry: “And Jesus, when he was baptised, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo the heavens opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lightning upon him: and lo a voice from heaven saying: This is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased” – Matt. 4:16-17 (KJV). At another occasion, on the mountain of transfiguration, the stunning witness came from the Father: “And after six days Jesus taketh Peter, James and John his brother, and bringeth them up into an high mountain apart… While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the Cloud, which said, this is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased: hear ye him” Matt. 17:1, 5(KJV)
As if the above witness was not enough, John also could not keep the identity of Jesus Christ away hence: “There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe. He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light” John 1:6-8 (KJV). The work of Christ bears witness to Him v.36, The Father also bears witness but unfortunately, people failed to believe in Him as we see in our time vv.37-38.
Would you please allow all the witnesses above well-up conviction in you to surrender to His Lordship over your life? You may not have another chance!
Prayer Point: Lord, I receive witness about You that You are the Light of the world. Take Your place in my heart now and forever in Jesus Christ name.
