Bible Reading: 11 Chronicles 1, 2, 3; John 10:1- 21
“I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep” – John 10:11 (KJV).
The activities of the shepherd are so daring that they most times they sacrifice their comfort for the pleasures of the sheep. The shepherd could go extra mile just for the sheep to smell and experience the desired relief. As Jesus continued in His teaching, He made it clear to His audience that some have gate-crashed and they are robbers. He stresses further that he that enters through the door is the shepherd of the sheep. In order to clear doubt, He emphatically said of Himself that He is the door of the sheep. At this, He warns the sheep that the thief has three mission namely: to steal, kill and to destroy. However, His mission is to give life in abundance to all who enter through Him.
Jesus, being a good shepherd, enumerates what the good shepherd does- “I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep… I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine. … and I lay down my life for the sheep John 10:11-15 (KJV). The phrase, ‘I lay down my life’ is constant in the statement of Jesus which means the depth of His love to His sheep. Again, as one who claims His Lordship, you should emulate the same thing by living a sacrificial life among the people you found yourself. Are you a father, boss, leader in one respect or the other? You are expected to be a good shepherd after the order of your Master, Jesus Christ. Do not be consumed by only what would benefit you at the expense of those who are following you.
If you have not made the good shepherd the shepherd over your life, then you have this opportunity now. Call Him into your heart and you shall be glad you did.
Prayer Point: Great Shepherd of the sheep, help me to always learn from You in Jesus name.
